FUENSANTA SOBEJANO
MADRID 1991
Fuensanta Sobejano is a digital artist based in Madrid. She holds an MFA in Interactive Arts from Pratt Institute in New York. Her work has been exhibited in institutions and galleries such as the Watermill Center and Pablo’s Birthday Gallery in New York; 1d3 by Nomos in Palm Springs, Mabe Gallery in Geneva; and Arniches 26 Gallery in Madrid.
Her artistic practice explores human perception through light, color, and movement, with viewer participation serving as an essential element of her work. She employs vibrant, high-contrast colors that evoke sensations of motion and change, creating optical illusions that come to life as the viewer shifts perspective. Fuensanta is particularly interested in how the eye and brain process visual information, continually challenging the observer’s expectations.
For her, the work is only complete through the viewer’s active engagement. Their movement and gaze transform the piece, revealing how the act of looking can alter perception. By highlighting the ways perspective shapes interpretation, her art invites deep involvement and prompts viewers to question the stability of what we consider real.
From this investigation of perception also emerges a more contemplative dimension. Color acts as a vibration that expands through space, generating visual resonances that invite stillness and presence. Through repetition, light, and rhythm, her works propose a state in which looking becomes a meditative gesture. In this way, perception becomes fluid, and color and light transform both the surrounding space and the consciousness of those who observe them.
