AR CONTEMPORARY

MADRID , 1983
Painter and plastic artist. Graduated in Art History UAM. Lives and works in Madrid.
Diego's work is based on conceiving the practice of painting as a way of looking, being and understanding the world. This may be the motivation and the pulse of a vital trajectory that traces a continuous line connecting the curiosity and sensitivity, diaphanous and surprising of childhood, with the process of painting now and with a critical sense and committed to collective values of the human condition, which resist its waste and degradation. A work that deals with the relationships between the sensitive and the thought, between time and the event or between desire and the ungraspable, that takes shape in a work at the meeting of poetic experience and the production of meaning, is a work that questions itself and what is shared. It is not about painting life, but about making painting alive.
After studying art history and a year's scholarship at the University of Rethymnon in Crete, he moved to his first studio in the Carabanchel district of Madrid, followed by another in the Lavapies district and the current one located in Puerta del Angel. Moved by the study of painting collections and the art of different cultures, he visits different cities of the Iberian Peninsula, Europe and the Mediterranean, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Tangier, Fez, Athens, he also travels to New York, Cuba, Sao Paulo and Dakar. A vital trajectory articulated by the idea of travel, through the multiplicity of history and the diversity of cultures and places. He has actively and collectively participated in a variety of meetings and seminars on art, thought and philosophy, as well as in the curatorship and mounting of exhibitions. In 2021 he founded the cultural space Nuevo Montacargas in Madrid, in charge of the production of artistic projects and graphic edition. His work is part of private collections in Madrid, London, Santiago de Chile and Paris.
